Introducing the New Testament – Samuël Lipman, Part 6: The Letter to Philemon and the Letter to the Hebrews
Samuël Lipman (1802-1871),born into a Jewish family in London but raised in Hamburg and Amsterdam, was a renowned lawyer who studied law at Leiden University and settled as an advocate in Amsterdam. Following his conversion to Christianity, Lipman was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church in 1852.
In the absence of a suitable translation of the New Testament for Roman Catholic believers, Lipman embarked on the task of translating the New Testament himself. His translation is distinct in its inclusion of extensive annotations, drawing heavily on the interpretations of the Church Fathers.
Unfortunately, Lipman was never able to complete his comprehensive translation of the New Testament. Initially released in three volumes, the final volume (from Corinthians to Hebrews) was published posthumously. This reissue of Lipman's work is presented in six volumes, spanning over 2500 pages.
Part 1 encompasses the translation of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, while Part 2 covers the translation of John and the Acts of the Apostles. Part 3 is entirely devoted to the Letter to the Romans, while Part 4 focuses on the Letters to the Corinthians. Part 5 includes the Letter to the Galatians through the Letter to Titus. Lastly, Part 6 features the translation of the Letter to Philemon and the Letter to the Hebrews.
With its meticulous translation and profound annotations, this edition of the New Testament by Samuël Lipman offers a valuable resource for Roman Catholic believers seeking a deeper understanding of the Scriptures. Delve into the richness of the Word and discover the profound insights provided by Lipman's extensive knowledge and careful research.
